PULP FLATS IN A BLURRED OASIS, 1996
-> deutsche version

Abstract:

  • The chosen planning area is situated in Clerkenwell, part of the borough of Islington, in the city of London. Different scales create the spaces of streets, squares and the volume of buildings.
  • The project shows future oriented ways of living based on the poetic interpretation of possible economical and sociological developments in the forthcoming years and the next millennium.
  • Within an urban planning adaptation, new forms of architectural spaces and living in those are proposed.

Coming from the analysis of the insider-outsider theory, three groups of users (Dinks, Cybernoids, Parasites) were developed:
Insiders are well informed, well educated with permanent, well-paid Dinks and Trinks). So outsiders do not have all these opportunities, because they lack the information. It is more difficult for them to get a job and if they do so, they would work as freelance, so not definitely employed. Therefore they are always in danger of loosing the job. Outsiders are not integrated in the typical process of work (also not in other aspects) – they are disintegrated people (> parasites). In general capital will constantly flow, therefore workforce will become mobil, especially well educated and informed people will physically start moving around the world. So e.g. clerks will start working via internet at any place for a company at any other place, everyone becomes his/her own firm, … - communication with high-tech-tools. If one thinks and interprets this further, the user-group of the cybernoids come up.

THIS ALSO IMPLICATES A CHANGE IN ARCHITECTURE TO FEED THE NEEDS OF THE COMING GENERATION.
