Conversion of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), foyer, lobby and office spaces

Cooperation architecture: Waltraud Hoheneder

Structural engenieering. Thomas Filipic

Steel work: Guido Wachering

DESIGN/ PROJECT:

The client FFG commissioned LIQUIFER to design in 1900-premises in the centre of Vienna a reception, a lobby and new office spaces for their headquarters of Austrian research.

RECEPTION AND LOBBY:

In order to be able to produce a constant floawing space with the area downstairs, which houses the LIQUIFER designed Austrian Space Agency, a reception area and a standing desk built with an aluminium covered stealframe were created. In the area of the receptionist`s working space the steal structure is only fixed to the column and thus floats above the floor. It`s sculptural form answers both to spatial conditions, and to user-specific requirements.

OFFICE SPACES:

The three new offices are defined by C-shaped elements, which are sound-isolating, view obstructing and covered with a warm orange carpet, and glass elements. Thus a rhythm of transparent apparently light disks and heavy bodily elements results. The thus formed niches serve for semi-public meeting and communication area in the connecting hallway. In the individual office these niches create a noise isolated and warm atmosphere.
